Even in the most unusual situations I find a chance to “lift up my eyes” to the art.
The unusualness of the situation which I got myself into by visiting the Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Russian Federation was that I was invited by my friends to translate from English to Russian (and vise versa) for a delegation of young politicians from the USA while they meet with Ms. Ella Pamfilova, Chairwoman of the CEC.
I gladly accepted the offer reminding myself that it’s been a while since I was engaged as an interpreter. And for two years I didn’t really speak any English. So I went to the CEC to do the job. Well…
The meeting started, I began to translate and… Not even three minutes passed when I have noticed that… That I sucked! I was not just bad with my translation skills, I was beyond bad. The good thing was though, there were people who could replace me right there. So I asked them to do so 🙂
The rest of the meeting I was not even really listening to Ms. Pamfilova talk about the recent elections in Russia. I was enjoying cookies and candies which were kindly placed in front of us on the tables 🙂
After the meeting (very awkward for me) was over I used the chance to browse through some paintings hanging on the corridor walls of the Central Election Commission. Here is what I managed to take pictures of.
